Bengali is one of the most beautiful languages in the world. It is soft and musical doesn't contain slang. And the brilliant, world renowned literature and rich culture of the Bengali speaking states in India and the country of Bangladesh adds to the richness of the Bengali language. No wonder the demand for Bengali translations has been increasing.
Belonging to the eastern Indo-Aryan group of languages, Bengali is one of the 23 official languages in India and the second most spoken language after Hindi, which is India's national language. It is spoken widely in the Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura, Assam and also the union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Bengali is also the official language of the country of Bangladesh. Besides, it is also spoken widely by the Bengali community in various countries such as Singapore, Australia, Nepal, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the UK, the USA and more. With more than 230 million speakers worldwide, Bengali is the sixth most spoken language in the world.
Bengali script
Bengali is written in Bengali script which is a variant of the Eastern Nagari script that has evolved from Brahmic script. Brahmic script is similar to the Devanagari script which is used to write Sanskrit, Hindi, Marathi and others.
Bengali dialects
Standard Colloquial Bengali is spoken in Kolkata and in parts of South-eastern West Bengal. Even though the Standard Bengali spoken in both West Bengal and Bangladesh is based on the West-Central dialect of Nadia, the Bengali used in both the regions is far different from each other.

Literary styles
Bengali has two different styles of writing. While one is called Sadhubhasa, the other is known as Chaltibhasa. On the one hand Sadhubhasa is a traditional style which is based on the Middle Bengali of the 16th century. The vocabulary in Sadhubhasa is derived from the Sanskrit language and has longer verb inflections. All the traditional literature you will find contains the Sadhubhasa.
On the other hand Chaltibhasa is a colloquial language which is found in modern writing. Chaltibhasa gained popularity around the 19th century when notable writers such as Pramatha Chowdhury created their works in Chaltibhasa. It later became the main language for communication and literature and was made immensely popular by the eminent novelists, poets and authors of the early and mid 20th century.
Bengali literature
The Bengali language boasts of a brilliant literature which has transcended boundaries and touched millions of hearts around the world. a^EUR-Gitanjalia^EUR^(TM), the world famous collection of poems by Rabindranath Tagore, written first in Bengali and then translated into English, won the Nobel Prize for Literature way back in 1913, making Tagore the first non-European to win this coveted honor.
Since then, works by eminent writers and poets such as Rabindranath Tagore, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Manik Bandopadhyay, Buddhadeb Guha, Bimal Mitra, Shankar and many more such illustrious writers are admired and read widely by students of literature around the world. Due to this huge popularity of Bengali poetry and literature, the demand for literary translations from Bengali to other languages is very high.
So in order to reach out to your Bengali audience, it makes sense to use the services of a reputable translation company be it an Ottawa translation company or an Edmonton translation services provider where translations are done by experienced and native-speaking Bengali experts.
