Guitar lessons can vary greatly in price. First you have to decide if you want a private lesson or a group lesson. Generally, private lessons would cost more than a group lesson. Private lessons can range from $20- $40 an hour. Beginner students usually opt for half hour lessons, and with a private tutor, these can cost anywhere from $15- $25 a session. But when you move on to more advanced skills, the price of having a private guitar tutor can go up to $50- $75 an hour.

With group lessons, the price mostly depends on the size of the group and the level of experience. With this in mind, the lessons can be anywhere between $40 and $80 a month. Although with group lessons the price would be lower, you have to keep in mind that you would not get as much interaction with the teacher, and probably not as much hands on help, considering the size of the group. These are all things you should keep in mind while making your decision.

Besides a music store, you can find guitar teachers at a discounted rate through an adult education program. Or you can check local college campuses for students that are willing to teach for a lower price. This could range anywhere from $20- $35 an hour. Another hint about that would be you can haggle prices with younger instructors because they most likely do not work for a business and are just looking to make extra money. When inquiring about guitar lessons, ask if they have any discounts, or a free a^EURoeget to know youa^EUR? session, where they can evaluate your skills and figure out the best lesson plan for you.

Most people who play guitars these days are self taught or have had a few lessons and gave up once they had learned the basics. Playing guitar music is very easy and the music is called a tab sheet. There are loads of websites that provide the tab music for hundreds of different songs for free and the also provide good guides on how to the read the music as well. A brief overview on how to play the music is that there will be six line corresponding to each string on your guitar. On each string will be a number which shows you which fret to hold down. If the string doesn't have any numbers then you do not use that string. You just read the music left to right like you would a book.

Sounds way too easy doesn't it. Just do a search of your favorite song or jingle and the word tab and find the music for it then just give it a go! You may well surprise yourself.

There are also some other fees that you will encounter while taking guitar lessons. Expect to pay between $25-$100 in material costs, such as books, the instrument itself, and any other learning materials the teacher might suggest. Other than that, lessons can range in price, depending on the format you decide to use.
